Well, the Republican Convention is all over but the shouting.

Personally, I am unimpressed. Donald Trump promised "The best convention ever" and in my opinion he fell far short of the mark.

The Republican National Convention is not officially over yet, but the main business they gathered for is done -- Donald Trump is now the official nominee of the Republican Party. As I write this, the delegation from Alaska has held up the works, demanding that their vote be re-counted. They re-counted the vote or something and then Dana White got up to speak. Yes, Mr. UFC. Mixed Martial Arts Impresario Dana White. Their prime-time speaker. After Appearances by Un-Stars Scott Baio and Antonio Sabato Jr. What next ? is Jon Voight going to talk to a mattress so as to upstage 2012s empty chair discussion held by Clint Eastwood ?  Look, I don't expect to see "Hamilton" or "Cats" or "The Producers" or even an off-broadway rendition of "Death of a Salesman".  But really. Chachi ? Dana White ? These were the best speakers Trump could draw ?

And now Mitch McConnell speaks. and Bullshit spews forth:

McConnell is standing up there telling the world how Hillary Clinton will say anything or do anything to get elected. Which, by the way, is exactly what his candidate has been doing all year.
If this is the pattern for the rest of the evening, I think I'll leave BBC news on while I work.

Later, the Trumplings:

Trumps Children are now lauding their father, praising him with great praise and being cheery supportive happies. If it weren't so obviously fake it would be treacly horrid.
Come to think of it, that doesn't stop it from being horrid, it just makes it comical at the same time.

 Final thoughts:

I had been intending to live-blog the end of the convention, but I could only tolerate it in small doses. Look, it's not that I don't appreciate political rhetoric. But this isn't rhetoric. It's lies. Not just the minor deviations from the truth that all too many politicians indulge in, but outright, not-even-close-to-factual lies. Downright untruths. Not exaggerations, not slight confabulations, but blatant, bald-faced lies. One of the few things I cannot stand in life is a liar. I can excuse small untruths. I can even understand political rhetoric. But blaming ISIS on Hillary Clinton ? Seriously ? Blaming Iraq on Hillary Clinton ? Damning Hillary Clinton for her vote on the George W Bush Authorization for the use of force in Iraq, while excusing Mike Pence, who not only voted for it, but openly advocated for it ? Damning Michelle Obama but yet having one of your key speakers crib whole sections of Mrs Obama's speech before the 2008 convention ?
